Additionally there are hikes included in this monument that are by PERMIT ONLY. One can be seen below, "The Wave".
To visit The Wave, you need a permit for an area called Coyote Buttes North. You can obtain online permits and permit information from recreation.gov. At most 64 people, 16 groups are allowed into Coyote Buttes North, whichever comes first. Permits for 48 people, 12 groups maximum, are issued via an online lottery held three months in advance. Permits for another 16 people, four groups maximum, are awarded via an online lottery held two days in advance.
The planning can be a little tricky when it comes to Escalante, since the information online can be somewhat limited. We highly suggest if you visit this monument to take the time beforehand and research. Here are some hikes you may want to take a look into:

Lower Calf Creek Falls:
A scenic and relatively easy hike leading to a stunning 126-foot waterfall. The trail meanders through a lush canyon, featuring petroglyphs and a refreshing oasis at the end.
Zebra Slot Canyon:
An iconic slot canyon with distinctive pink and white stripes. This moderately challenging hike involves navigating narrow passageways and is known for its photographic opportunities.
Devil's Garden:
An intriguing area with a concentration of hoodoos, arches, and natural rock formations. The trail allows you to explore unique geological features, including Metate Arch and the iconic Devil's Garden.
Peek-a-Boo and Spooky Gulch Slot Canyons:
A thrilling loop that combines two slot canyons known for their narrow passages, towering walls, and photogenic spirals. This hike requires some scrambling and navigating through tight slots.
Coyote Gulch:
A backcountry trek leading to the enchanting Coyote Natural Bridge and Jacob Hamblin Arch. The hike offers expansive views of towering cliffs, natural amphitheaters, and the serenity of the Escalante River.
Calf Creek Overlook:
A moderate hike that provides panoramic views of the Escalante Canyons and the surrounding landscape. It's a great option for those seeking breathtaking vistas without an extended trek.
Brimstone Gulch:
A slot canyon adventure with narrow passageways and unique rock formations. The hike includes sections of sandy wash and involves some scrambling.
Willis Creek Slot Canyon:
A family-friendly hike that follows the course of Willis Creek, revealing colorful slot canyon walls and towering cliffs. The trail is relatively flat, making it accessible for all skill levels.
For food in the town of Escalante, click here for a Google map. Other than the food there, it can be very limited, so make sure to pack plenty of food along for the hikes and eat before you go.
